Does Anyone Have Psoriasis Mainly On Their Scalp, Forehead ?

A MyPsoriasisTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have psoriasis for nearly 15 years since when I was a teenager, and it has always been very bad all over my scalp, forehead, behind my ears, along all the hairlines in the back and the front, I have to keep a particular hairstyle with lots of fringe in order to cover it in my forehead. There is a bit on my lower back, but not too much, just those on my scalp are very aggressive, red and thick skin, itchy, it's difficult to keep my hands off the head scratching it.... I dont drink nor smoke, no… read more

Hi everyone, I have scalp Psoriasis. I have had it a long time and when it first started many years ago when I was about 10 years old it looked like I was wearing a wig as it was so red and sore on the front of my head, I had thick patches of white flaky skin on the sides of my head near to my ears and behind them I had a bit of flaky skin but it was more sore and red looking. Over the years my scalp Psoriasis has got a lot better and it no longer looks like I have a wig on but I do get flares when things seem to go pop all over my head and it itches quite bad but I started using a shampoo with Neem in it that seems to work for me and I used a Neem based cream or ointment too. I think that sometimes we have to use what works for us as well as what we are prescribed by our health professionals.

Hi.... I too have had psoriasis for decades including my scalp.... I thought I’d share this with you in hope it may help you as I found it worked for me after having a particularly bad flare up about 6 months ago.
I always used steroid lotion to manage the scales etc, but it just stopped working one day and became pretty unmanageable, the scales appeared on my forehead, around and in my ears and covered my scalp, my GP gave me other steroid options to try but it wouldn’t settle. I researched loads and found a shampoo called scalp benefits by Aveda- which has totally settled my scalp down. Whilst my psoriasis was very active I would also use a mix of cold pressed organic hemp oil and groundnut oil and dab it all over my scalp and hairline and leave it over night- gently comb scales out and then wash it off with the scalp benefits shampoo! I would use the oils probably every other day at first when it was really bad ( my hair is long and thick) it was a total pain to be honest, and messy! But within about 2 months of doing it I am pretty much psoriasis free on my scalp! I still oil my scalp about 2 x week and only use the scalp solutions to wash my hair ( bit pricey but don’t need a lot) but it has made a huge difference to my scalp.... my Gp gave me back my old steroid lotion ( betnovate) to use to see if it helps now-?ive used it about 4x in the past month!
It could be a fluke- but I swear it did something for my scalp and if it helps you get rid of this stubborn and horrible condition, then I’ll be happy!

I've had psoriasis for over 30 years. It started around my forehead and scalp and moved to all over my body. Nuetrgena T/gel shampoo worked well for the scalp. I have tried several different treatments. I was recently prescribed cosentyx by my dermatologist and it has been amazing. I am about 95% clear now.

I had this for many years and it started when I had gone through puberty and got worse and worse, my head and neck itched constantly, I scratched liked a mad person and it looked dreadful! I started using a more natural shampoo (Neem in my case) and although it was a very slow process my scalp improved no end and I now don't have to many problems with it, I am not saying I don't have psoriasis anymore as I do but it has taken me many years and lots of trial and error.

I want to try the cosentyx. It's an injection? I wonder if insurance will pay for it?
