Switch From Cosentyx To Taltz
Recently started on biologics after a couple of years trying various topical and systemic treatments.
Tried Cosentyx first. Made zero difference after initial 5 weekly starter doses.
So Dermatologist has now switched me to Taltz. Just took first starter dose this week.
I note that both drugs interact with the same interleukin (IL-17A).
Does anyone here have any knowledge or experience of switching from Cosentyx to Taltz? How likely is it that Taltz will do what Cosentyx didn't?
I was on talz for about 2 years and it cleared my skin about 90% which was great but when I got pregnant in 2017 I had to discontinue use, my skin started having falre ups almost immediately after discontinuing. I was put back on TALZ 1 month and a half after giving birth and it did NOT work the same way it did when I was first prescribed to it. I stayed with it for about a year and it was almost like I wasnt taking anything. I made an appt with my derm and he switched me to Tremfiya. I did the starter dose about 2-3 weeks ago and I already see a difference. The doc did tell me that when you take breaks or stop using a medication for a long period of time the chances of it working again when you start back up are slim to none. I hope if/when I get pregnant again it doesn't do the same thing with Tremfiya, I am running our of meds to try at this point.
My progression was Humra (pulmonary embolism) to Enbrel (can cause seizures). Went to Cosentyx which worked until I didn't meet monetary standards of being in debt. I have dry eyes and suffer as well from allergies affecting my eyes. I have family history of cataracts (and from what I have read the psoriasis /PsA can accerbate cateracts. I use Zaaditor drops and take a supplement for my eyes (it has Lutein in it) Know this doesn't help. Medicare sucks and won't cover Cosentyx. Since then 3 other medcations have been approved by heathcare (Methotrexaate, Illumys, Orenzia a .) Methotrexate is a cancer drug that has been repurposed and interacts with other meds I take though treats PsA & PsO; Illumya has little safety data (made in India) ^ only treats psoriasis/costs $19,000 per dose! Orencia is the latest to be "approved" but my insurance says it is not covered. I could use Plaquenix which is prescribed for Lupus but no pharmacy in town would fill it even if one of doctors would prescribe it ot.
Regarding Cosentyx and Taltz - apparently they work differently on the interleukin whatever, My medication is supposed to be like Taltz. It's called tremfya. I was told it was over $9,000. for the injection. Crazy! It is being covered by the Drug company and my private insurance. Don't hesitate to ask your dermatologist questions. Write them down ahead of time so that you don't forget - that's what I do. She/he has a responsibility to let you know. Some doctors were hesitant to use the biologics originally, but now more are prescribing. If you read the possible side effects, it can be scary. Fingers crossed!
I was actually on Humera in the beginning. It was horrible. Than Enbril. I got worse . Than Taltz that was the magic shot . I went 2 months no pain, no flares. But my vision started getting blurry. And major headaches. My doctor stopped me on the Taltz and I begged to stay on it till it was proven it was the cause. Nope she stopped it . Went to an eye doctor who said I have dry eye problems. Just regular drops. Problem solved. But it's been 3 months now to get the cosyntex . Back to constant fatigue. And joint pain. I just did my first shot a week ago . I was more than happy with Taltz. Took 10 years to finally get something to work . To be cut off . Not happy at all because I was ready to go back to work. Now I'm back to day by day crap .
My Dr says Humira/Enbrel have been around the longest, and have safety record.
Who Uses Humira?
Has Anyone Ever Used (OTESLA) And If So How Did It Work? I'm Scared Of Bialogics But This One Seems To Be More Safe Than The Others..
My Dr Is Changing Me From Otezla To Humira And I'm Nervous. It Has Some Serious Side Effects. Anyone Have Problems?
