How Do You Deal With Psoriasis On Bottom Of Feet?

A MyPsoriasisTeam Member asked a question 💭
Camden, NJ

Ever since my 2018 heart surgery doctor's cut some nerves and I don't get regular pain on my feet and shin areas. Psoriasis is thickest on bottom and builds up so I can't bend my toes. Then soak and try to peel but.its a vicious circle every 2 weeks. Ever use electric tools to get dead skin off and cut my toenails with it to. Good night. Ttysoon

What kind of psoriasis do you have? Your feet look painful. Do you see a rheumatologist or dermatologist or both? I read your story and it's good to be honest. I try not to get too involved in discussing my health to people who are ignorant to the disease or just do not understand pain, fatigue, frustration , etc.

To manage psoriasis on the bottom of your feet, consider the following treatments and care tips:

1. Topical Corticosteroids:
- Strong corticosteroid creams or gels are often the first line of treatment. Follow your dermatologist's instructions when applying these creams.

2. Phototherapy:
- Also known as light therapy, this involves exposing the skin to certain types of light, such as ultraviolet B (UVB) rays or UVA rays.

3. Systemic Therapy:
- For persistent or severe cases, systemic oral or injected medications like methotrexate, cyclosporine, or biologics may be recommended. These target the immune system and help bring about remission.

4. Foot Care:
- Wash your feet regularly with gentle soap that does not dry the skin or trigger flares.
- Use a gentle moisturizer to keep your feet well-hydrated. Lotions with urea or salicylic acid are specifically designed for people with psoriasis.
- An oatmeal foot bath may also soothe your skin.

5. Consult a Specialist:
- Make an appointment with a podiatrist or dermatologist to confirm the diagnosis and discuss the best treatment options.

6. Community Support:
- Connect with others who understand life with psoriatic disease on platforms like MyPsoriasisTeam to share experiences and tips.

Remember, finding the right treatment may take some time, so be patient and work closely with your healthcare provider.

Oh I forgot to ask you, how did you find out which kind of psoriasis you have? My dermatologist said I have to have a biopsy. Do you know if that is the only way? Inverse psoriasis from what I understand is the worse kind to get. Sorry just saying what I heard.
