Strep Throat Connection

A MyPsoriasisTeam Member asked a question 💭
Columbus, OH

I’m curious as to how many people had strep throat frequently when they were young. I have read that there is a connection between strep and psoriasis.

Strep usually coincides with a flare for me and clinically, it is most commonly linked to guttate psoriasis which appears in drop-like formations.

Streptococcus is often dormant in the biome until the immune system is weakened enough for it to become pathogenic. Once activated it has the potential to cause other co-infections like psoriasis, staph, EBV, flu or herpes simplex.

This goes to show that one of the best methods of prevention for flares is a robust immune system; a diverse anti-inflammatory diet high in B's, zinc and vitamin c, sleep, exercise, hydration, stress management are the key drivers for healthy immunity and prevent flares from being triggered in the first place.

Hope that's helpful <3 Curious what your experience has been?

From what I’ve read, this is related more to the Guttate form of Pso?

Look for a probiotic lozenge sold on Amazon US under the name Ultra Blis. It’s the result of studies regarding strep throat infections and can be used as a preventative. You can look up the name of the bacteria and guttate or strep or psoriasis and find the science behind it.

From what I understand it’s a “good” bacteria that has the ability to colonize humans and protect against strep? Do some reading :)

Interesting! I had strep frequently as a child. Also being an educator I did get strep right before my diagnosis twice.
