For psoriatic arthritis, treatments can include both injections and infusions:

- Injections: These can be administered using prefilled syringes or autoinjectors. Your healthcare provider can train you on how to use these. Pharmaceutical companies often provide detailed guides, including written instructions, online videos, or telehealth training sessions.

- Infusions: These are administered directly into the veins (intravenously) and require a visit to a doctor’s office or infusion center. Medications administered by infusion include:
- Inflectra (infliximab-dyyb)
- Remicade (infliximab)
- Simponi Aria (golimumab)

Infusions can be more expensive and require more frequent medical visits compared to pills.

Hi Beth-
The decision I have to make is: take Methotrexate( pill form), or take medication via transfusion- Remicade or Simponi, none of which I am thrilled to take. The potential side-effects sound horrible and risky. I guess I could do nothing anust treat the arthritis. But I have been told that once joint damage has occurred, it can't corrected. I am leaning to the Methotrexate and monitor it. The thought of having infusions every 8 weeks for the rest of my life, age 69 and healthy otherwise, really is a bummer! Guess I will see what my research bears and what my doc feels, although he is pushing the infusions. Thanks for your responses.

Hi Mike. In Australia, I have never come across anyone with PsA that gets transfusions. However, my ex-husband had RA (he has since passed). Many years ago, he got the transfusions, but he had RA.

I don't know anything about transfusions for PsA but came across below relating to RA.
(from website) B-cells are white blood cells, which normally produce ‘antibodies. Antibodies help protect the body from infections. In rheumatoid arthritis however, some B-cells produce harmful ‘autoantibodies’, which cause inflammation in the joints. These result in pain, joint swelling and stiffness, and can lead to joint damage. By temporarily removing the harmful B-cells, infusions reduce inflammation, lessens the symptoms and helps stop further joint damage. Transfusions also removes some ‘good’ B-cells, but these return some months after treatment.

Thanks Flore- I really don't want to take medication or transfusions every 8 weeks for the rest of my life, any alternative suggestions or resources to investigate?
Thanks, Mike
