How Do You Cope With Ear Psoriasis?

A MyPsoriasisTeam Member asked a question 💭

I've been struggling with ear psoriasis for years now. Every few months I'm going to my audiologist to get dead skin suctioned from my ears. I'm hoping that being on biologics now will help with the build up and lessen the amount I need to get my ears cleaned. I sometimes get infections because of the build up and have temporary hearing loss which is very uncomfortable. Does anyone have any tips for dealing with ear psoriasis?

I use a Bobby pin ,but I have been doing it for 40 years now and I don't want to make a recommendation to anyone else to go digging out their ears like that.

Coping with ear psoriasis involves a combination of treatments and lifestyle adjustments to manage symptoms effectively. Here are some strategies:

1. Topical Treatments: Using corticosteroids or vitamin D analogs like calcipotriene can help reduce inflammation and control the buildup of scales.

2. Ear Drops: Specialized ear drops may be prescribed to alleviate discomfort and manage symptoms directly in the ear canal.

3. Moisturizers: Over-the-counter moisturizers that are free of alcohol, fragrances, and preservatives can help soothe the skin and reduce dryness.

4. Systemic Treatments: For more severe cases, systemic treatments like oral corticosteroids or biologics may be necessary.

5. Professional Cleaning: Have a dermatologist remove any buildup of scales or excess tissue in the ear to prevent complications like hearing loss.

6. Lifestyle Changes: Avoiding triggers such as stress, smoking, and excessive alcohol can help reduce flare-ups.

7. Community Support: Engaging with communities like MyPsoriasisTeam can provide emotional support and practical advice from others who understand the condition.

It's important to consult with a dermatology clinician to tailor the treatment plan to your specific needs and monitor your condition.

I would be hesitant sticking anything in my ear. For home treatments use a small cotton ball saturated in. Debrox Wear that for 24 hours.. The goal here is to get the impacted stuff out. Your wax is there for a reason, and protective reason.
