Has Anyone Had Experience With Plantars Warts And Psoriasis On The Same Foot?

A MyPsoriasisTeam Member asked a question 💭
Australia

I am struggling with immense pain from a planters wart along with psoriasis on my foot. I also have neuromas in my feet and it seems that all these issues trigger more nerve pain. Unfortunately many of the treatments for warts seem to make my psoriasis worse. Walking has been painful for many months but now it’s getting to the point where I am finding walking a struggle. The wart is probably causing the greatest pain at this point. Suppressing the immune response for psoriasis seems to be bad… read more

Managing plantar warts and psoriasis on the same foot can indeed be challenging, especially when treatments for one condition exacerbate the other. Here are some insights and suggestions based on my knowledge base:

Pain and Discomfort
- Psoriasis on Feet: Psoriasis on the feet can cause significant pain and discomfort due to the pressure from walking. Symptoms include inflammation, redness, and a burning sensation.
- Plantar Warts: These can add to the pain, making walking even more difficult.

Treatment Challenges
- Immune Response: Suppressing the immune system to manage psoriasis can hinder the body's ability to fight off warts.
- Scraping Warts: This can trigger a flare-up of psoriasis, making the condition worse.

Recommendations
- Consult a Specialist: A podiatrist can provide tailored advice and may design custom orthotics to alleviate pressure on the affected areas.
- Footwear: Consider shoes with a wide shape and high toe box, like Crocs or Dr. Martens, to reduce pressure and discomfort.
- Heel Pads and Compression Socks: These can offer additional support and reduce swelling.
- Night Splints: These can help prevent heel pain by keeping the foot at a 90-degree angle while sleeping.

Additional Tips
- Avoid Injuries: The Koebner response can cause psoriasis flares after an injury, so be cautious to avoid further trauma to your feet.
- Pain Management: Over-the-counter pain medications like ibuprofen or naproxen can help manage pain and inflammation.

It's crucial to work closely with your healthcare provider to find a balanced treatment plan that addresses both conditions without exacerbating either.
