Is There A Relation Between Anemia And Pso?
So recently I found out that I have been anemic for several years and don't know why. My doctor thinks my body just doesn't absorb it but can't explain why. Anything I have looked up just lists diseases and disorders, none of which I have, but are all some sort of inflammatory condition. I just started to wonder if maybe it is just one of those things that goes along with psoriasis. How many others have this issue?
I would imagine this is all related to the auto-immunity aspect of this. I have a hypothyroid, as well as psoriasis. My dad has both too, as well as Psoriadic Arthritis. I have in the past been told I was anemic due to low vit-B levels (pernicious anemia), but then suddenly it was "all better"????
Unfortunately our immune systems are simply attacking our bodies in various way. I would ask your Dr. to check your Vit. B levels. Low vit. B affects the levels of red blood cells.
I am sorry if this comes off rude but it is not all about our skin. It is an overactive immune system which is why alot of us also have it in the joints. There are several disorders linked to "psoriasis" mainly the fact that it is an inflammatory disease. The question i should have asked is, how many others have been anemic over a long period of time? We have learned my chronic migraines are related to the condition , now come to find out the same time that started I also became anemic and have been since. My doctor and I are trying to figure out why because I take more than enough iron supplements each day but it never goes up. Essentially my body isn't absorbing it and the doctor said there is a possibility that the anemia and ulcers are caused by inflammation inside the body. That it is making it harder for me to absorb iron and the lining of my stomach is affected causing ulcers.
Our illness is all about the skin but I have found some studies saying it inflames the sinuses and lungs. Lots of studies say fibromyalgia, endometriosis, cancers, lymphoma..... I'm anemic and have been forever. Vit D is crap also as well as the B group. I've just gotten over a flare up and had one of my weird pees recently and discovered I'm dumping a whole heap of calcium at this time. Any time I say what can I take, I'm told supplements wont help. They say I'd have to take so much it would be toxic. I had a blood test reveal my blood was dying quickly and wasn't told to do anything different. I couldn't breathe when I was walking and no one offered any info or help. I'm stumped how little drts know.
I have been to the Dr about this, apparently it is all related to the inflammation. People with any type of inflammatory diseases have more complications. I also have stomach ulcers and he said again it's all related in a roundabout way.....unfortunately I can't see my dermatologist til June but thankfully I have an amazing pcp who helps the beat he can with everything in the meantime!
I am not Anemic, but for 20 years I have had problems with my Electrolytes remaining balanced.I have been hospitalized several times for this issue, But I never thought to ask about my Psoriasis. My Sodium levels dropped so low Last year they put me in ICU, they said I should have had a heart attack with as low as they were, I also have problems with the Potassium levels, same thing...I just started seening a new Internist who by chance happens to have a very light case of Psoriasis (elbows and knees only, Lucky Man)At my next appt, I will ask about this....now I hae somethig new to think about ! Maybe together we can figure it out!
