Is Psoriasis Affected By Swimming Pool Water

A MyPsoriasisTeam Member asked a question 💭

I use to love to go swimming but no longer go as I worry it will affect my psoriasis. Does anyone go swimming still? If so does it affect it in anyway?

I have been told by quite a few people that chlorine actually helps their skin, similar to a salt bath or vinegar bath, so give it a try - you never know until you try something and the plus side - you will enjoy it so that's a major bonus ............

I do. The sun plus the water will help but salt water is better than the pool. I also take salt water baths with lavendar and just started tea tree oil. I just started w/the baths so we shall see!

I live by swimming in my saltwater CHLORINATED pool. Even saltwater pools get cleaned using a salt chlorine generator filtering system. The system uses electricity to turn salt into chlorine, which cleans the pool. In a chlorinated pool, chlorine tablets or granules are physically added regularly for the same purpose.

When swimming in a saltwater pool, I have no skin or PSA issues -- so it's truly the best of both worlds for me. Same with swimming in the ocean.

If you find the health benefits of saltwater or chlorinated pool swimming, help your PSA or PSO tremendously, then find your sweet spot. Toweling off immediately, then rinsing, adding sunscreen, lotions, etc.

Swimming is a powerful tool to help me kick this behemoth disease in the butt all summer long. And soon, I will do so in the winter months too.

Godspeed to all.

Hi
Chlorine has antibacterial properties and the same reason that the chlorine is bad for your skin and hair, generally is what makes it helpful for acne. That is, it dry out acne.
