“Ginger Puts White Blood Cells On Heightened Alert” .. Is This A Health Benefit Or Detriment For Psoriasis?
I love Ginger and used to make ginger tea from fresh root regularly, but not since my diagnosis. Recent news about ginger is interesting, but left me with some questions, see what you think?

Yes, the coverage mentions “health benefits” but leaves us hanging as to exactly what they are. Don’t people with psoriasis have enough immune alarm bells ringing? Reading on, I found research showing that eating dried ginger results in beneficial… read more
Turmeric has benefited me so much. I noticed when taking them as supplements my Psoriasis did not flare as much. But this goes in hand with avoiding other triggering food. I will say from experience Turmeric did help me and I noticed a help with less symptoms. If I did have some psoriasis symptoms they were not as bad.
Ginger has many magical properties..along with garlic and tumeric
Yes it does! Thank you very much. It wasn’t processing data very well that day and needed other eyes.
Rereading other studies I’d linked, I also found this:
“ Among these, GELN mdo-miR7267-3p-mediated targeting of the LGG monooxygenase ycnE yields increased indole-3-carboxaldehyde (I3A). GELN-RNAs or I3A, a ligand for aryl hydrocarbon receptor, are sufficient to induce production of IL-22, which is linked to barrier function improvement. “

Plant-Derived Exosomal MicroRNAs Shape the Gut Microbiota by Yun Teng, YI Ren, et al. doi: 10.1016/j.chom.2018.10.001. Epub 2018, Oct 25.
I recognized something in that quote from that study.. that ginger ( best source dried ) yields something called indole-3-carboxaldehyde (I3A). ( it has this in common with cauliflower, from other reading I’ve done. )
I3A when combined with stomach acid yields something called ICZ, or Indolocarbazole. Digested, this lowers Th17 and up Tregs ( or T Regulatory Cells.) Some people take systemic or biologic drugs fro those results. It’s also saying that this improves barrier function, which is what I wondered when it said remodeling the microbiota.. because 90some percent of us are likely to share “ intestinal tissue issues,” that make it hard to get nutrients ( like D ) from food and Spring is a great time to call in the gut contractor and do some remodeling.
So Ginger and Cauliflower have this Indole bit in common. They are also Aryl hydrocarbon Receptor Agonists, which is the method of operation in Tapinarof, the novel molecule in topical Vtama, the med I’m using. That treats psoriasis by lowering inflammation.
I wouldn’t suggest eating large volumes of either of these, but it’s great to understand some of the chemistry behind what would make them good for psoriasis. What I don’t get is why ginger isn’t written about more in context to psoriasis. Plenty is written about Salmon. Why not Ginger? Too much of any one thing is likely bad for the delicate Pso balance, but I used to drink homemade ginger tea with abandon. Not understanding what heightened white blood cells meant for Pso, I’ve avoided it.
But I’ve recently found a small jar of bits of freeze dried ginger sold as a spice by Litehouse on Amazon. each is about the size of a Tic Tac. Maybe that’s a place to start.
I’m still very interested if Ginger makes others here flare, please.
This is very interesting, huh, @A MyPsoriasisTeam Member ?
Thank you @A MyPsoriasisTeam Member :)
Maybe this is helpful?
It sure sounds good to me!
"Ginger inhibits inflammatory responses typical in psoriasis by decreasing NF-kβ, and its short-term administration shows that ginger may form part of an alternative treatment for psoriasis."

"Psoriasis, an inflammatory dermatosis, is marked by elevated levels of active, phosphorylated NF-κB. Genomic studies have also linked psoriasis with mediators in the NF-κB pathway. NF-κB has been hypothesized to connect the altered keratinocyte and immune cell behavior that characterizes the psoriatic milieu."
