EllieS, Agree 100% and another crazy aspect is the existence of binders in food. Oxalates bind to calcium and other minerals and vitamins preventing absorption while some vitamins can actually become an oxalate if there is too much of it. Vitamin C is present in most citrus fruit and most citrus fruit is high oxalate and it is the vitamin most associated with becoming an oxalate issue. Then the binders are swept away by the detox system and along goes our vitamins and minerals.
I have issues holding onto vitamins and minerals and I suspect this was the cause. Hair tests showed my hair cannot hold vitamins and minerals that should be abundant.

I agree, @A MyPsoriasisTeam Member and @A MyPsoriasisTeam Member , there seems to be a movement behind overdoing D.. it’s important to actually know your level, but taking 20, 30, 40k IUs and more isn’t helping anything that I can see. People continue to think you can’t take too much of vitamins and “ what you don’t need will just wash out,” but that’s not always true. D is a fat soluble vitamin, it’s stored in your body.. B6, like Bs is water soluble, but it can build to toxic levels. All of these things stay in your body for specific amounts of time.. and call me nutty, but I can’t help but think, too much of anything still has to go through your liver and kidneys. You don’t want to muck up your filters, do you ;)

I agree D is important, but it’s equally crucial to take it accompanied by its “ cofactors “

Please take a vitamin D3 + K2 so that your body doesn’t move the Calcium D helps control into the wrong places, like your heart and circulatory system, but instead where it needs to go, into bones and teeth. The K2 helps us avoid “hypercalcemia” which can result from taking D alone.

Accompany this D supplement with at least the RDA of Magnesium, or yours will be depleted. I take 400 mg of Magnesium Glycinate daily to work with the SportsResearch D3+K2 I use. Read the reviews for that product on Amazon, it’s a huge seller for a good reason :)

Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin so taking it along with a small amount of fat makes it work. The supplement I take does all of this, as it’s made in vegan friendly gelcaps containing a little coconut oil. It’s the SportsResearch D3+K2 mentioned above with 125mcg of D3, which is 5000 IU of D3.

I took 2 for awhile to get my levels back up, but then cut back to one and in warmer months when I get lots of sun exposure, maybe 2-3 per week.. but back to 1 a day in winter:)

I still get D tested once a year in annual checkup, but then 6 months later I get a D test by mail from OmegaQuant, it’s a fingerprick test where you blot and return a test card, it’s available worldwide, they wk for the Olympics and many pro sports teams. Read the FAQ on the bottom of their main page to get your test covered by your insurance, otherwise it’s about 50 dollars, very affordable :)

Your body needs magnesium to properly use D. Make sure you take them together.

My doctor checks mine yearly at Well check. I take D3 5000 iu in the summer for I garden , hike and walk-in my hood. I up it in the winter to 7000 iu per my doctor results. I eat a lot of food with D and supplement with a once daily multivitamin. It has D3. So I watch that closely too. Glad you found that data helpful. We do inherit things from genes and good to process that into your life. Lucky you got 23&me and the trail to isolate your decisions.
