Out of control cytokines attacking your body in response to an antagonist. The antagonist is a "trigger" that sets your immune system into attack mode. The system produces cytokines which are inflammatory protein molecules that normally attack viruses and bacteria. The trigger can be anything from what you eat to an environmental pollutant to stress. Figure out what your triggers are and avoid them like the plague and youll probably clear up and feel a lot better. Most Rheumatologists like to prescribe biologics these days. Unfortunately, biologics target just one cytokine and the drs rarely rest your blood to determine which one(s) is causing your inflammation. Problems arise from this if the biologic they experiment with on you is not the right one, and we can produce a couple hundred types. Good luck. 😌🙏

Psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis (PsA) are both autoimmune diseases, meaning the body's immune system mistakenly attacks healthy cells and tissues. Here are the key points:

Psoriasis:
- Autoimmune Nature: The immune system becomes overactive and attacks the skin.
- Causes: The exact cause is unknown but likely involves both hereditary and environmental factors.

Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA):
- Autoimmune Nature: The immune system attacks the ligaments and joints, leading to inflammation and damage.
- Causes:
- Genetic Factors: Linked to specific variations in inherited genes, such as HLA-B27.
- Environmental Factors: Physical injury, viruses, infections like strep throat, and work-related physical activities.
- Immunological Factors: Abnormal immune response involving inflammatory mediators and T cells.

Risk Factors:
- Psoriasis: The most significant risk factor for PsA.
- Family History: A family history of psoriasis or arthritis increases the risk.
- Severity of Psoriasis: More severe psoriasis increases the risk of developing PsA.

Additional Notes:
- Koebner Phenomenon: New skin lesions can appear at the site of skin injuries in people with psoriasis, potentially leading to PsA.
