Insurance Prior Authorization Issues
Has anyone had issues with their health insurance refusing to cover the cost for their medications?
I'm new to PSA, I'm on SKYRIZI, just took my second dose. I couldn't afford it, my copay was $2,600. I'm using AbbVie assistance and they cover 100% of the cost and they have amazing experts to help me on this journey.
Mahalo Lisa.
I've had to fight my insurance company to pay for my Skyrizi. Lost all of my appeals. They wanted me to try a laundry list of other drugs. I'd have to try and have failed their recommendations. Or I'd have to explain why I cannot take the drugs they recommend. Meanwhile, while I'm trying to get my Skyrizi, I have a host of other medical issues. One of them being pink eye which is contagious. I have tried to convince my insurance company to make an exception because I have a contagious disease, but nope. Heartless.
I decided to go through Abbvie's Patient Assistance Program and got my first two doses. Did my first dose the last Saturday of April. Kind of slow in seeing results compared to Humira and Taltz. I'm hoping to see results after my second dose. After enduring this fight with my insurance company, it better be worth it.
I think most people have an issue with the insurance approving meds. The doctor usually has to give them details about your treatments to date. They also usually have you start with the med that has been on the market the longest unless they can get you approved without that. Also most manufacturers have a patent assistance program to help cover the cost of the med. Your doctor can assist with that too. Best of luck
