Docs Missing Psoriatic Arthritis Because No Dactylitis?

A MyPsoriasisTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am wondering if anyone has been diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis without any dactylitis? I have fought 'athletes foot' and toe nail issues for years. Fungus never showed up in cultures. Recently had a rash on that foot and saw a dermatologist who told me I was not dealing with athletes foot but with Psoriasis. When I told her I have had sore joints recently she suggested PSA could be a concern. Two Rheums said they don't think so because I don't have swollen tender joints. However, I… read more

There are no labs for psoriatic arthritis. It is seronegative, which means that tests like C-Protein and Sed rate offer no results that show just for the arthritis. I tell others that if you don't like or understand the answer a doctor gives you, ask them to explain it. If that doesn't help, find another doc. If a doc says your blood test don;t show psoriatic arthritis, find another doc.

Even if you are positive for IL-27A, it means little. I am negative and definitely have PSA! IL-27A is a good marker for spondylitis though.

I particularly got a good laugh from one of our posters that stated her rhuemy said she didn't have psoriatic arthritis because she could squeeze his fingers! I told my rheumy about that one and he even laughed. He said he did not want me squeezing his fingers!

This is one disease you are best if you read a lot. And read good materials, not facebook posts!

Find another doc. I had other joint pain for years before it developed in my hands and fingers.

I have psoriatic arthritis and don’t have dactylitis. Never have it in the 3 years I have had arthritis. I get swelling in my whole hands or feet but mostly when symptoms are worsening or they swell bad in the summer heat.

Yeah but still could be osteo with that data and still needs a plan of treatment and care. Damage to joints and connective tissue should be addressed.
